2018 Term 2 STEM

During term two:

Grade Prep (Foundation) continued to used Kidpix 3D to improve their fine motor skills to handle the mouse and keyboards as well as learning to log on to a laptop, open a designated program, to create pictures and print them.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

they also used Cubetto Robots to learn basic directional coding. Covering pictographic maps, 4 points of a compass & coordinates on a map.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Grade 1 & 2:

During term 2, students developed and displayed their skills using the 2Assess ICT-program. They print their certificates and result feedback sheets.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Students used Physical Bee-bots to complete directional coding exercises then used the digital version of Bee-bots to complete directional coding tasks on various mats. 

 

 Grade 3 & 4:

Students logged into STILE to be introduced to a student LMS (Learning Management System)

Students developed and displayed their skills using the 2Assess ICT-program. They print their certificates and result feedback sheets.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Students disassembled Lego NXT robots back to their original kits, then reassembled the robots for use in coding the robots using “Lego Mindstorms.

 

 

 

Grade 5 & 6:

Students logged into STILE and completed lesson and questionnaire on  “Asynchronous / Synchronous learning”.

During Term 2,

Students developed and displayed their skills using the 2Assess ICT-program. They print their certificates and result feedback sheets.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Students continued using a “Rubik’s cube ” to learn and practice a sequence of 8 algorithms. 

 

 

 

 

 

Students used their iPads, using the app Sphero Edu to drive the Sphero robots, then used the Sphero games app to complete Sphero challenges. 

 

2018 Term 1 STEM

My program this year has changed to STEM  so I need a different approach for some of my Program

Some more hands on activities sometimes without iPads or laptops.:

During term one:

they also worked on correct handling of equipment and ergonomics (sitting correctly within their learning environment.

Students used an algorithm to learn the safe procedure of crossing the road.

Grade 1 & 2:

During Term 1, they created their ID card for their portfolio folder. This required opening and saving a template, editing the template and taking their portrait photo to import it into the ID card  , they print and paste it onto their folder. 

Students completed environmental science worksheet from Science: A STEM Approach (Year 1) on  habitats for grade 1 and  Science: A STEM Approach (Year 2) on Growth & change the human being.

Students completed environmental science worksheet from Science: A STEM Approach (Year 3) on Predicting on the Earth, Sun & Moon with  grade 4 creating a catapult from STEM Projects box 4.

How the internet works – Students watch the animated video GoodWarriors to see what is involved behind the scenes when they make a request for a web page on the internet.  They then completed the questionnaire in STILE. 

 

2017 Term 1 weeks 8 & 9

Week 9 is used as a catch-up week.

Week 8 – Computer parts

Grade 1 & 2

Students watched a video on the desktop and learnt in depth about the desktop, icons and the taskbar. They then completed a worksheet on what they have learnt.

Grade 3 & 4

Students watched a video on Knowledge and Understanding of Computer Parts – external and peripheral devices and then treated their login to  Mathletics and Literacy Planet. 

Grade 5 & 6

Students logged into STILE and completed Questionnaires on computer parts after reading about and watching a video on  Computer Parts – Internal and external components and peripheral devices.

2017 Term 1 week 7

Grade 1 & 2

Students used Butterflies and Pegs recording devices to record their voice detailing their observations on nature in the school grounds.

Week 4 ID CARD

Grade 1-6 Opened and saved in a nominated folder their ID card Template. They edited the template including inserting their portfolio photo created in week 2. They then edited it,  they saved the card’s changes and printed after which they pasted on their work samples folder.

Week 3 Cybersafety:

Grade 1 & 2

Students went back over some of the class rules (ergonomics rules) and then visited Hector’s World  [Details Details & Welcome to the carnival]. 

Grade 3 & 4

Students went back over some of the class rules (ergonomics rules) and then visited Cybersmart Budd:e  

Grade 5 & 6

Students went back over some of the class rules (ergonomics rules) and then visited CyberSmart Access 

2017 Term 1 weeks 1 & 2

GRADE 1-6

In week one the students did a walkthrough of the computer & wireless network at the school,  Computers were checked for problems and used to investigate favourite programs or websites. Students also went through the classroom rules and code of co-operation

During week 2 students used the webcam on the laptops to take a portrait photo and rename & save the photo in a nominated folder (to be used later to create an ID card).
